⚛️ The Anti-Matter Defense Question
When a person presents a ridiculous ideological stance and is challenged, that person or another person that agrees with the ridiculous ideological stance will often ask the rhetorical question, “What/why does it matter?”
The reason they ask that question is to imply that it does not or should not matter to the challenger, but it clearly matters to the person being challenged, which is why they have the ridiculous ideological stance. They want other people to know about their ideological stance which is a clear indication that it matters to the person, but they will ask “Why/what does it matter?” when challenged.
Allow me to reveal what is actually going on when people posit the “Why/what does it matter?” question…
INTELLECTUAL RETREAT is what’s happening.
COGNITIVE DISSONANCE is what’s happening.
DEFLECTION is what’s happening.
DENIAL OF REALITY is what’s happening.
Any person that defends a ridiculous ideological stance or statement recognizes when their ideology is in danger of being invalidated by any person that challenges bullshit with REALITY.
Saying “what/why does it matter?” is ALWAYS a rhetorical question when posed in defense of ANY ideology.
Tolerance and apathy is what they seek from the person they ask that rhetorical question to.
They want you to be tolerant of their ideology while they are intolerant of reality and at the same time, they want you to be apathetic about it.
So, what is the person that asks that rhetorical question actually DOING?
The person is being THERSITICAL because they are INSULTING and attacking the intelligence of anyone that challenges or rejects the bullshit (the ideological stance).
When a person asks “what/why does it matter” or “why do you care?”, I call that the “Anti-Matter Defense”, because the person seeks for their target to not care about the bullshit. In other words, they don’t want it to matter to you (anti-matter). The person wants the challenger to shut the fk up and cease the challenge because such a challenge invalidates their ideology, which will impair the bullshitter’s credibility.
So, what is the best way to deal with people that posit the “Anti-Matter Defense”?
Allow me to show you…
The Bullshitter: “What/why does it matter?” or “Why/what do you care?”
The Response (choose one or several):
1. “Because I’m not apathetic. Any time that somebody is attempting to bullshit me matters because I’m not apathetic about bullshit."
2. “Why shouldn’t it matter?”
3. “It matters to me for the opposite reason that it matters to you enough for you to have an ideological stance about it.”
“You posed that rhetorical question because you seek for me to be apathetic and tolerant of some bullshit, and that’s not happening. You want me to shut the fk up and not say anything more that will further invalidate your bullshit, but that’s not happening either. What’s happening is that you are about burn and turn because your bullshit is already defeated by reality and it won’t be any other way. People like you will say or do anything to protect and serve their ideology, and people like me recognize psychological warfare when it is being waged.”
When a rhetorical question is asked in defense of ideology, the questioner is not looking for an answer but instead is seeking to subvert reason and reject or deny reality.
